Zoetic
At its core, my work is about “life”; Defined as: a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings. I am especially interested in the delicate nature of life, its brevity and fragility. I strive to capture the delicacy and impermanence of life within my work; I feel that (because of their fragile forms) flowers and insects express this well.
In “Zoetic” insects are my protagonists for an allegory of life; I present them in a way that speaks of our human experience. Some of the paintings are based on a single word that describes a life situation or state of being. Others are simply an attempt to capture the fragility and impermanent forms of the insects in a state of stasis, reminding us of our own ephemerality.
